Denmark Gigs

Denmark Festival of Voice weekend

The Denmark Festival of Voice is where the whole of Denmark comes alive with song and music in the form of choirs, song writers, spoken word, poetry and so much more including many different workshops.  It starts on Friday night at the Civic Centre and continues on till late Sunday night.  There’s a festival club each night where everyone can wind down and dance and have a great time.  You can purchase tickets for the day or the whole weekend and there is so much to do each day that you end up just strolling around from one venue to the next to see what’s happening.  There are also a number of free venues for those who just want to roam around and not purchase a ticket.  I played at http://mrsjonescafe.com on Saturday at lunchtime and then at Chilli, Lime and Salt Cafe https://www.facebook.com/Chilli-Lime-Salt-Cafe-Denmark-Florist-1431642290407728/ on Sunday early evening.  Thanks to http://www.denmarkarts.com.au for putting on such a lavish weekend and to Vivienne Roberts for doing such a great job of organising, coordinating staff and booking such a great bunch of acts.  If you’re looking for something to do over the June long weekend I highly recommend a trip to Denmark Western Australia and get in amongst it.

The next couple of months

Albany boatshed markets

I’ve been busy booking a few gigs to keep to keep me going over the next few months.  July 17th will be my first 3 hour gig on my own – yep 3 hours!! It’s actually 3 x 45 min sets with some decent breaks in-between.  So now I need to get all my songs up to scratch and even learn a few new ones so that I have enough tunes to keep me going, it’s all about taking it to the next level I guess. I will be play a mix of originals and covers because that’s how it works when you are doing the circuit you have to have plenty of covers up your sleeve otherwise you just won’t get the gigs doing all originals and no gigs means no practice in front of a live audience.  I’ll be easing into things at the https://albanyboatshedmarkets.com which is only 1 hour and 15 mins. Then I have my first 3 hour gig at The Three Anchors http://www.threeanchors.com.au in Albany on Sunday July 17th at 4pm.  August 7th I’ll be playing at the Earl of Spencer http://theearlofspencer.com.au for a Sunday session from 5 – 8pm, they do great meals there and it’s a real nice english pub feel.  Then I’ll be at the Boston Brewery http://www.willoughbypark.com.au on August 20th from 5 – 8pm another great venue, awesome food and great friendly staff.

September 6th I take off to Sydney to do a bit of album promoting.  So I have a couple of radio shows lined up and some songwriters performance slots and a couple of folk club gigs. First stop is The Sutherland Acoustic folk https://www.facebook.com/Sutherland-Acoustic-Club-650347191745258/ Club in Gymea on September 8th.  Then on Tuesday 13th it’s Live and Originals @ Mr Falcon’s, https://www.facebook.com/MrFalconBar/ and Wednesday 13th Songwriters Live in Manley https://songwriterslive.com.au/the-old-manly-boatshed/. On Thursday we will be driving down to Wollongong where I will be playing at the Illawarra Folk Club http://www.illawarrafolkclub.org.au so it’s all go!  On Sunday 11th I will be talking to Michael Hayes at https://www.facebook.com/RareTraxxEclectic/ 2MCR 100.3 FM and on Tuesday 13th I will be chatting with John Regan on http://northsideradio.com.au where I will be talking about my Sydney mini tour and my album “Break of the Day” and I’ll probably play a few tunes too.

“Break of the Day” Album Launch

My Album Launch at the Golden Hill Steiner School was a very special afternoon.  I was terrified and the days preceding the launch were very tense in my home but I did it and that’s what this whole journey is about.  Each time I choose a task that I feel is beyond my capabilities and ability I go through the same process which is absolute fear for days preceding the event, and then I do the gig, and moments after I criticise myself to the max. I go through the usual self talk like “what the hell was I thinking”, “what am I really doing this for?”, “they’re not interested in my music” and the list goes on and on and then the next morning I feel absolutely fantastic!  It’s a crazy journey but an incredibly fulling one. Here’s a video  of one of the songs I did at the launch, Cathy Fotios joined me on percussion and backing vocals.

Albany Advertiser Article

It was a lovely surprise to open the Albany Advertiser to this huge almost full page photo of me the other day and just in time for my Album launch.  Jess did a great article and what fab photos by Peter Caron http://www.carono.com.au.
